Did you know Benjamin Franklin became a vegetarian as a teenager partly so he could spend more money on books? Or that animal names like raccoon and moose come from language used by American Indians? Or that wings were once reviled as the worst part of the chicken, until a bar owner in Buffalo, N.Y., had the idea to fry them and smother them in sauce?
Katy’s first book, Awesome America: Everything You Ever Wanted to Know About the History, People and Culture (2016) is a smorgasbord of all things American for young children. The book does reckon with some of the country’s mistakes and injustices but generally tends toward fun. You can buy it here.
Katy is currently developing several ideas for additional children’s books, mainly fictional ones with silly rhymes.
